7 more testify against ex-land minister, 35 others in Tk25cr graft case

A Chattogram court today (5 May) recorded the testimonies of seven more witnesses in a case filed against former land minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed and 35 others over the alleged embezzlement and laundering of Tk25 crore.

Following the testimonies, defence lawyers conducted cross-examinations as per legal procedure.
Speaking to The Business Standard, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Public Prosecutor Advocate Mokarram Hossain said the court has set 20 May for the next phase of testimony.
With seven individuals testifying today, a total of 18 witnesses have so far testified in the case.
The judicial process centres on allegations of money laundering through a shell company named Vision Trading.
According to the case details, the accused bypassed United Commercial Bank (UCB) regulations to secure a loan of Tk25 crore between October 2019 and February 2020.
This amount was later allegedly laundered abroad via hundi, an informal money transfer system.
On 11 March, the court framed charges against the 36 accused, including the former minister.
The prosecution has submitted a list of 92 witnesses to testify in the trial.
