DU, six other public universities get new VCs
Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon made the announcements at a press conference at the ministry today (16 March).
The government has appointed new vice-chancellors to several public universities, including Dhaka University and Chittagong University.
At a press briefing yesterday (16 March), Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon announced Professor ABM Obaidul Islam, the current vice-chancellor of Bangladesh Open University, as the new vice-chancellor of Dhaka University.
Professor Siddikur Rahman Khan has been appointed vice-chancellor of Bangladesh Open University, while Professor Md Nurul Islam, currently pro-VC of the National University, has been named vice-chancellor of Central University.
Professor Md Masud will lead Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (Kuet), and Professor Md Al Forkan will serve as vice-chancellor of Chittagong University.
Professor Md Faridul Islam has been appointed vice-chancellor of Rajshahi University, and at Jagannath University, Professor Rais Uddin, chairman of the Islamic Studies Department and president of the teachers' association, will assume the vice-chancellor role.
Minister Milon explained that selections were based on candidates' research, publications, citations, academic qualifications, PhD and postdoctoral experience, and overall academic performance. "Every appointment was made after a thorough review of the candidate's academic record," he added.
