2 beaten to death over theft allegation in Munshiganj
Locals allegedly caught the two while they were attempting to steal electrical wires from the community clinic
Two men were beaten to death over allegations of theft in Louhajang upazila of Munshiganj, police said, adding that three people have been arrested in connection with the incident.
According to police, the incident took place around 3am today (4 March) at the Satgharia Community Clinic in Haldia Union.
Locals allegedly caught the two while they were attempting to steal electrical wires from the community clinic. An enraged crowd later assaulted them, leaving them critically injured.
The deceased were identified as Sagar, 30, son of Farhad Mia, and Chanarul, 30, son of Md Shahidul, both residents of the Goalimandra Bede Palli area.
Locals claimed that goats worth over Tk1 lakh were stolen from a farm in the Satgharia area about two weeks ago, and the two victims had been suspected in that incident.
Following the incident, police arrested three suspects. Police said raids are underway in the area.
Munshiganj Superintendent of Police Menhajul Alam said an investigation has been launched and three people have been arrested.
