Shama Obaed Islam Rinku, a first-time Member of Parliament from Faridpur-2, is likely to be appointed state minister for foreign affairs today (17 February).
She contested the Faridpur-2 (Saltha and Nagarkanda) constituency as a BNP candidate.
Shama Obaed has been serving as organising secretary of the BNP and is a member of the party's foreign affairs committee.
Following the death of her father, former BNP secretary general and minister KM Obaidur Rahman, in 2007, she remained active in the constituency as a party leader before being elected to parliament for the first time.
The Faridpur-2 lawmaker reportedly received a call at noon today to join the new Cabinet.
Earlier in the morning, newly elected BNP MPs took oath at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, administered by Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin.
At 4pm, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and members of the new Cabinet took oath before President Mohammed Shahabuddin at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
The Cabinet Division is expected to issue a gazette notification in the evening detailing the allocation of ministries.
