What Tarique's Cabinet looks like: 25 ministers, 24 state ministers sworn in
The new 50-member cabinet, including Tarique, took the oath this afternoon.
As many as 49 people, mostly newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) of the BNP and its allied parties, took oath today (17 February) as ministers and state ministers in the new cabinet led by BNP Chairman and now Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
All of them received calls from the Cabinet Division earlier, sources from the division and the BNP confirmed this afternoon.
Earlier in the morning, newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) of the BNP, which secured a two-thirds majority in the 13th parliamentary election, and its allied parties took oath at the parliament building under the leadership of party Chairman Tarique Rahman.
While they were sworn in as MPs, they did not take the oath as members of the Constitution Reform Council.
The new 50-member cabinet, including Tarique, 25 ministers, and 24 state ministers, took the oath this afternoon. The BNP, through social media, has revealed the portfolios of many of the ministers, but several ministers' and all state ministers' portfolios are yet to be officially announced.
The ministers and state ministers are as follows:
Ministers
Mirza Fakhrul
BNP has chosen its Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who was elected MP from Thakurgaon-1, to serve as the Minister of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives in the new Cabinet.
In his immediate reaction in the afternoon, the veteran politician told The Business Standard, "I don't know yet what responsibility I will be assigned. I cannot comment on it at the moment. Hopefully, I will find out by this evening."
Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury
The party has also chosen Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, who was elected from Chattogram-11, to join the new Cabinet as the Minister for Finance and Planning.
Salahuddin Ahmed
Salahuddin Ahmed, the MP from Cox's Bazar-1, will serve as the Minister of Home Affairs.
Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku
Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, the BNP candidate who won from Sirajganj-2, himself confirmed to TBS that he had also received the call to join the cabinet.
The BNP announced that he will serve as the Minister of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources.
Hafizuddin Ahmed
Major (retd) and Bir Bikram Hafizuddin Ahmed, elected from Bhola-3, will serve as the Minister of Liberation War Affairs.
AZM Zahid Hossain
AZM Zahid Hossain, who was late BNP chief Khaleda Zia's personal physician and got elected from Dinajpur-6, will serve as the Minister of Social Welfare.
Dr Khalilur Rahman (technocrat)
Dr Khalilur Rahman, who served as the national security adviser and as the chief adviser's high representative on the Rohingya Issue in the Interim government, will serve as the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Abdul Awal Mintoo
Abdul Awal Mintoo, elected MP from Feni-3, will serve as the Minister of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change.
Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad
Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad, the BNP MP from Cumilla-3, will serve as the Minister of Religious Affairs.
Kaikobad has contested the national election six times from that constituency and has been elected all six times.
Mizanur Rahman Minu
Mizanur Rahman Minu, the BNP MP from Rajshahi-2, will become the Minister of Land.
Nitai Roy Chowdhury
Nitai Roy Chowdhury, elected from Magura-2, will serve as the Minister of Cultural Affairs.
Khandaker Abdul Muktadir
Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, elected from Sylhet-1, will become the minister for the ministries of commerce, textiles and jute, and industries.
Ariful Haque Chowdhury
Ariful Haque Chowdhury also received a call to take the oath as a minister. He will likely become the minister of the Ministry of Labour and Employment and the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment together.
When contacted around 12:30pm, he told Prothom Alo, "I will work inclusively with everyone. The party has evaluated and elevated a grassroots worker like me, and I want to repay that trust through my work. I seek everyone's prayers."
Zahir Uddin Swapan
Zahir Uddin Swapan, elected from Barishal-1, will become the Minister of Information and Broadcasting.
Amin-ur Rashid Yasin (technocrat)
Amin-ur Rashid Yasin, as a technocrat minister, will take charge of the ministries of agriculture, fisheries and livestock, and food.
Afroza Khanam Rita
Afroza Khanam Rita, first-time MP from Manikganj-3, also got a call to join the new Cabinet. She will serve as the Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism.
Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee
Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee, who was elected from Lakshmipur-3, will serve as the Minister of Water Resources.
Asadul Habib Dulu
Asadul Habib Dulu, who won from Lalmonirhat-3 constituency, will serve as the Minister of Disaster Management and Relief.
Md Asaduzzaman
Former attorney general Md Asaduzzaman, elected from Jhenaidah-1, will serve as the Minister of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs.
Zakaria Taher
Zakaria Taher (Sumon) has received a call to join the Cabinet Division. He will likely become the minister for Housing and Public Works.
Dipen Dewan
Dipen Dewan got a call to join the new cabinet. He is likely to become the minister of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs.
Ehsanul Haque Milon
ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon, elected MP from Chandpur-1, will serve as the Minister for Education and Primary and Mass Education.
Milon previously served as the state minister for education in the BNP government from 2001 to 2006. He was widely known for his strict measures against cheating and rigorous oversight of examinations.
To curb malpractice, he frequently visited numerous public exam centres across multiple education boards on the same day, sometimes travelling by helicopter without protocols.
Sardar Shakhawat Hossain Bakul
Sardar Shakhawat Hossain Bakul, elected from Narsingdi-4, will be the Minister of Health and Family Welfare.
Fokir Mahbub Anam
Fokir Mahbub Anam, who won as the BNP candidate in Tangail-1, will take charge of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology as well as the Ministry of Science and Technology.
Sheikh Robiul Alam
Shaikh Rabiul Alam, the BNP MP from Dhaka-10, will take charge of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the Ministry of Railway, and the Ministry of Shipping.
State Ministers
Rashiduzzaman Millat
M Rashiduzzaman Millat, elected MP from the Jamalpur-1 constituency in the 13th national election, has taken the oath to join the Cabinet as a state minister.
According to BNP sources, he is likely to become the State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism.
Aninda Islam Amit
Aninda Islam Amit, son of late BNP minister Tariqul Islam and new BNP MP from Jashore-3, got a call to join the Cabinet. He is likely to become the State Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources.
Shariful Alam
Shariful Alam, the newly elected MP from Kishoreganj-6, is set to become a state minister for the ministries of Commerce, Industries, Textiles and Jute.
Shama Obaed Islam
Shama Obaed Islam, the newly elected first-time MP from Faridpur-2 constituency, is set to become a state minister for the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
Sultan Salahuddin Tuku
Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, the newly elected MP from Tangail-5 constituency, is set to become a state minister for the ministries of Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock, and Food.
Kaiser Kamal
Kaiser Kamal is set to become the state minister for the Land Ministry. He was elected from Netrokona-1 (Kalamkanda-Durgapur) and is serving as a Member of Parliament for the first time.
Farhad Hossain Azad
Farhad Hossain Azad, elected from Panchagarh-2 (Boda and Debiganj) as a BNP candidate, is set to become a state minister for the ministry of Water Resources.
He serves as the Rural Development Affairs Secretary of the party's National Executive Committee and is the Member Secretary of the Panchagarh District BNP.
Aminul Haque (technocrat)
Aminul Haque, who contested the election from Dhaka-16 but was beaten by the Jamaat-e-Islami candidate, also got a call to join the Cabinet. He is likely to become the State Minister for Youth and Sports.
Md Helal Uddin
Md Helal Uddin got a call to join the Cabinet and is likely to become a state minister for the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs.
Habibur Rashid
Habibur Rashid, the elected MP from Dhaka-9 constituency, is likely to become the state minister for the ministry of Road Transport and Bridges.
Rajib Ahsan
Rajib Ahsan, the elected MP from Barishal-4, is set to become state minister for the ministries of Railway and Shipping.

Md Abdul Bari, the newly elected MP from Joypurhat-2, is set to become the state minister for the Ministry of Public Administration

Farzana Sharmin, the newly elected Member of Parliament from Natore-1 (Lalpur-Bagatipara), has received a call to join the Cabinet.

Nurul Haque Nur
Nurul Haque Nur, elected from Patuakhali-3 (Galachipa-Dashmina) in the 13th National Parliament election, is set to become the state minister for the Ministry of Labour and Employment and the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment together.
