BCI, BIDS team up on manufacturing research and policy advocacy
The Bangladesh Chamber of Industries (BCI) and the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) titled "Research and Advocacy for Industrial Development in Bangladesh" at the BIDS conference room in Agargaon, Dhaka, at 3:30pm today.
Professor Dr A K Enamul Haque, Director General of BIDS, signed the MoU on behalf of BIDS, while Anwar-ul Alam Chowdhury (Parvez), President of BCI, signed on behalf of BCI.
BCI Senior Vice-President Priti Chakraborty and other directors were present at the ceremony, alongside BIDS research directors and other senior officials.
The MoU aims to facilitate joint work on: (a) a Quarterly State of Manufacturing Industry; (b) research on the manufacturing sector; and (c) policy advocacy.
Speaking at the event, Anwar-ul Alam Chowdhury (Parvez) stated that real-time data on the manufacturing industry—through the State of Manufacturing Industry (SoI)—is essential for industry owners and other stakeholders to support manufacturing growth, foster new entrepreneurship, and attract foreign investment.
He added that BIDS, as a leading research institution, would be able to deliver the work effectively, benefiting industry owners, policymakers, investors, and the government. He also thanked the BIDS Director General and others concerned.
Professor Dr A K Enamul Haque noted that BIDS is both a government research wing and an independent research institution, and is keen to collaborate with the private sector to advance research on Bangladesh's industry. He expressed satisfaction with BCI as a partner and confidence that the MoU would help identify real challenges in the industrial sector through research, creating opportunities for effective and practical studies to support industrial policymaking.
