The Bangladesh Bank has issued a clarification regarding online payments through international cards, specifying payments against a number of purposes as allowable.

However, a single transaction must be within $300 even if the transactions are being made against the allowable purposes, said the Bangladesh Bank circular issued on Sunday.

Besides, such payments must be within the annual limit allowed by the Bangladesh Bank's guidelines for foreign exchange transactions, said the central bank in its clarification.

Among the allowable purposes specified by the central bank, payments of information technology (IT) or software firms which are members of the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services, and payments for membership fees, IT expenses, visa processing fees, hotel booking and mobile phone roaming bills were included.
