Misusing religion to mislead people not acceptable: Fakhrul
Noting that participation in politics is acceptable, he said spreading lies, slander, and defamation is not
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today (February 4) said spreading confusion in the name of religion is unacceptable and cannot be proper politics.
Addressing a street rally at Kismat Daulatpur Dakhil Madrasah ground in Thakurgaon, he said some groups speak in the name of Islam to deceive people, claiming that voting for certain symbols would ensure entry into heaven—an oblique reference to Jamaat-e-Islami.
Noting that participation in politics is acceptable, he said spreading lies, slander, and defamation is not.
Referring to media reports, Fakhrul criticised the Jamaat ameer for allegedly using obscene language against women, questioning how such a leader could claim moral authority.
He said BNP believes in constructive politics focused on development and restoring people's rights, adding that Chairman Tarique Rahman is following the footsteps of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.
Fakhrul outlined BNP's plans for jobs, family and agriculture cards, and loan waivers, urging voters to support the "Sheaf of Paddy" symbol on January 12.
He added that people have been denied voting rights for 15 years and hoped for a free and fair election this time.
