Govt officials openly seeking votes for ‘sheaf of paddy’: Asif Mahmud
“As the election draws nearer, the administration is revealing its previous form,” he claimed
Government officials are openly seeking votes for the "sheaf of paddy", the electoral symbol of the BNP, alleged National Citizen Party (NCP) spokesperson Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan.
"As the election draws nearer, the administration is revealing its previous form. Due to the bias of the Election Commission and the administration, government officials are now openly asking for votes for the 'sheaf of paddy.'
He said this is a threat to democracy while addressing an NCP election rally at Singra bus stand in Natore today (3 February).
Asif further said that when the 11-party alliance lodges complaints with the Election Commission, no action is taken.
"However, if BNP files a complaint against a candidate, swift measures are taken," he alleged.
After one candidate was served a show-cause notice, the concerned official was withdrawn the very next day, Asif added.
He said, "If anyone attempts to return to power through a rigged election by using the administration, they should not assume they will escape like Sheikh Hasina did. Sheikh Hasina came to power through three rigged elections, but such a scenario would not be possible in post-5 August Bangladesh."
"If necessary, people of the country will give their lives for their voting rights," he further added.
