EWU's 25th convocation held in Dhaka
The 25th convocation of East West University (EWU) was held on 2 February 2026 at the Aftabnagar Playground in Dhaka.
As the representative of His Excellency the President, the chancellor of the university, Professor Mobasser Monem, chairman, Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC), conferred degrees on the graduating students.
A total of 1,857 undergraduate and graduate students received degrees at the convocation. In addition, nine students who achieved a CGPA of 4.0 were awarded gold medals for exceptional academic performance.
In his address, Professor Mobasser Monem said knowledge and skills gain true meaning when grounded in moral values. He urged graduates to take pride in their country and contribute to building a peaceful and livable world by reducing national and global unrest. Emphasising environmental responsibility, he said protecting nature is a moral duty, as human existence depends on it.
The convocation speaker, Tapan Chowdhury, managing director, Square Pharmaceuticals PLC, said the nation needs ethical professionals and innovative problem solvers, not just a workforce. He noted that attractive salaries, designations or social media profiles do not define success; rather, success lies in creating a positive impact on society, the nation and the world. He added that success often comes after multiple attempts.
Professor Mohammed Farashuddin, chairperson of the board of trustees, EWU, and former governor of Bangladesh Bank, said the university has consistently prioritised merit and transparency. He expressed optimism that EWU graduates would contribute to building a discrimination-free society, equipped with skills, ethics and education.
Professor Shams Rahman, vice-chancellor, EWU, urged graduates not to remain confined to the comfort zone of earning a degree, warning that such satisfaction can lead to inertia. He said achieving a prosperous future requires competing not only with peers but also with the most skilled individuals globally and encouraged graduates to become responsible citizens guided by morality and humanity.
The convocation ceremony was attended by members of the board of trustees, the pro-vice-chancellor, the treasurer, deans of various faculties, chairpersons of departments, faculty members, officials, graduates and their guardians. Graduates expressed their joy at receiving their certificates on time at the completion of their academic journey.
