HC grants 6-week bail to BNP candidate Rubel, 39 others in Sherpur Jamaat leader murder case
On 28 January, Rezaul Karim, secretary of Sreebardi upazila Jamaat-e-Islami, was killed after being injured in a clash between activists of Jamaat and the BNP during an election manifesto reading programme in Sherpur.
The High Court has granted anticipatory bail for six weeks to BNP candidate for Sherpur-3 constituency Mahmudul Haque Rubel and 39 others in a case filed over the killing of Maulana Rezaul Karim, secretary of Sribardi upazila unit of Jamaat in Sherpur.
The order was passed today (2 February) by a High Court bench comprising Justice Kamrul Hossain Molla and Justice Faisal Hasan Arif.
Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal represented the accused during the hearing before the court.
On 28 January, Rezaul Karim, secretary of Sreebardi upazila Jamaat-e-Islami, was killed after being injured in a clash between activists of Jamaat and the BNP during an election manifesto reading programme in Sherpur.
The clash broke out at a programme organised by the upazila administration, reportedly following an argument over seating arrangements.
