Ctg Awami League leader dies while in jail custody
Abdur Rahman was the vice-president of South Agrabad Ward-24 Awami League.
An Awami League leader has died while undergoing treatment under the supervision of Chattogram Central Jail.
Confirming the matter, Senior Jail Super Md Iqbal Hossain said Abdut Rahman, 70, died while receiving treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) around 11:30am today (31 January).
He had been suffering from cancer and several other serious illnesses for a long time, he added.
Abdur Rahman was the vice-president of South Agrabad Ward-24 Awami League.
According to Chattogram Central Jail sources, he was sent to jail as an undertrial prisoner in a case filed with Kotwali Police Station on 17 November 2025. As his health deteriorated, he was referred to CMCH for advanced treatment on 24 December 2025. After undergoing medical examinations, doctors admitted him to the hospital.
Following nearly a month of treatment at CMCH, he was discharged on 18 January 2026 and sent back to Chattogram Central Jail. He was admitted to CMCH again on 26 January.
According to his hospital discharge certificate, he was diagnosed with carcinoma of the lung with brain metastasis. He was also suffering from high blood pressure and other complications.
