NCP pledges to form army drone brigade
The project is expected to cost approximately Tk2,500 crore over the next five years.
The National Citizen Party (NCP) has pledged to form a full-fledged UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) brigade in the army to strengthen modern warfare and intelligence capabilities.
NCP unveiled its 'Manifesto of Youth and Dignity' at an event at the Lakeshore Hotel in the capital's Gulshan area this afternoon (30 January). Party convener Nahid Islam presented the key points of the manifesto.
The party also plans to focus on boosting domestic research, development, and production of defence technology.
According to the manifesto, the proposed brigade will combine offensive and surveillance capabilities.
It will include 10 strike UAVs capable of precision attacks on specific targets, while 30 ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) UAVs will monitor borders, coastal zones, and strategic installations around the clock.
The plan also includes 100-200 short-range drones to support field-level security and real-time monitoring. These drones will help the army and security forces collect information quickly and analyse situations efficiently.
The manifesto further proposes deploying 2,000 personnel to assist in routine patrols, border security, and internal operations.
According to party sources, the drone brigade will significantly enhance the army's intelligence capabilities and enable faster, technology-driven decisions in modern warfare and crisis response.
The project is expected to cost approximately Tk2,500 crore over the next five years.
