Gaan Bangla’s Taposh barred from leaving country
The court also ordered Taposh, his wife Farzana Munni, also known as Farzana Arman, and their children to provide their income tax documents
A Dhaka court has barred Kaushik Hossain Taposh, singer, composer and chairman of Gaan Bangla Television from leaving the country.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sabbir Faiz gave the order today (29 January) in response to two separate CID petitions.
The court also ordered Taposh, his wife Farzana Munni, also known as Farzana Arman, and their children to provide their income tax documents, confirmed Court assistant Riaz Hossain.
CID's Deputy Inspector Mehedi Hasan filed the petition seeking to restrict Taposh's travel abroad.
The petition states that Taposh faces a case for attempted murder. During the investigation, preliminary information on alleged money laundering was found. The investigation is ongoing and evidence is being collected. There is a risk he may flee the country, so his foreign travel needs to be restricted.
Mehedi Hasan also filed a petition seeking the income tax documents of Taposh, his wife, and children.
According to the petition, Taposh is under investigation under the Anti-Money Laundering Act for acquiring wealth beyond known income. Various departments were asked for information on his movable and immovable assets. Most replies were received, but income tax documents in the names of Taposh, his wife, and children were not provided.
For investigation purposes, the court approved the review of these income tax documents.
Earlier, on 4 November 2024, police arrested Taposh from the capital's Uttara in an attempt to murder case, filed by a businessman named Ishtiaq Mahmud.
