BNP alleges rival party violating electoral code by sending women activists door-to-door in Dhaka-15
BNP candidate Milton also alleged that a similar incident occurred in Shewrapara of Pirerbagh, where organised Jamaat workers allegedly beat two BNP activists after locals questioned their conduct
Shafiqul Islam Khan Milton, BNP candidate for Dhaka-15, has alleged that a particular party violated the election code of conduct by sending women door-to-door to collect voters' personal information ahead of the 13th parliamentary election.
Milton, speaking to reporters after receiving his party symbol from the returning officer at the Election Training Institute (ETI) building in Agargaon today (21 January), claimed that female workers of the party were going house to house in the constituency asking for voters' National ID numbers and bKash account numbers – information he described as "personal and confidential."
"When the women workers were questioned about collecting such information, they fled the scene. Later, their leaders brought 20-25 people and physically harassed the person raising the concern," Milton said.
Milton also alleged that a similar incident occurred in Shewrapara of Pirerbagh, where organised Jamaat workers allegedly beat two BNP activists after locals questioned their conduct.
"The situation escalated to a commotion. I immediately contacted the police and the army to restore order," he added.
The BNP candidate urged the Election Commission to intervene to ensure that voters in Dhaka-15 can exercise their voting rights in a peaceful and orderly environment.
