Zohran Mamdani has made history by taking the oath of office as mayor of New York by touching the Holy Quran. The 34-year-old politician took the oath of office in the open courtyard of City Hall on Thursday, the first day of the new year. On paper, he is the first Muslim mayor of New York City and the first mayor to take the oath of office by touching the Holy Quran.
