Bank Asia appoints new AMD and COO
Md Sabbir Hossain, a seasoned banker with extensive experience, has joined Bank Asia PLC as Additional Managing Director (AMD) and Chief Operating Officer (COO), effective 1 January 2026.
Hossain brings more than three decades of successful banking experience, particularly in technology, operations, digital transformation, and process re-engineering. He began his career at ANZ Grindlays Bank in 1994 before joining Standard Chartered Bank (SCB). During his tenure at ANZ Grindlays and SCB, he held several key leadership positions, including Head of Banking Operations, Branch Operations, Personal Banking, Proximity Banking, Country Technology, Operational Risk and Service Quality, and later served as Head of Corporate, Institutional and Commercial Banking Operations.
Subsequently, Hossain worked as Country Head, Operations and Technology at Citibank N.A., and later as Chief Operations Officer at MetLife Bangladesh. Prior to joining Bank Asia, he served as Deputy Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of BRAC Bank PLC, joining in September 2019. At BRAC Bank, he demonstrated strong leadership in information technology, operations, sustainable finance, digital transformation, and process re-engineering initiatives.
Md Sabbir Hossain graduated in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and holds an MBA from North South University. He attended executive education at MIT, USA, on 'Social Programme Evaluation' and holds Executive Certificates from Harvard Kennedy School on 'Economic Development' and 'Public Policy'. He takes a keen interest in inclusive development and environmental good.
