Bangladesh Supreme Court Day today
This year marks the ninth observance of Bangladesh Supreme Court Day.
Bangladesh Supreme Court Day is being observed today (18 December) with various programmes on the premises of the apex court.
Marking the occasion, the Supreme Court has organised a special discussion meeting at its auditorium at 4pm. Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed will attend the programme as the chief guest.
This year marks the ninth observance of Bangladesh Supreme Court Day.
Judges of the Appellate Division and the High Court Division of the Supreme Court, the attorney general, the president and the acting secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association, the vice chairman of the Bar Council, guests, as well as officials of the Supreme Court Registry and the Supreme Court Secretariat, will also be present at the discussion.
The decision to observe 18 December each year as Bangladesh Supreme Court Day was taken unanimously at a full court meeting held on 25 October 2017, to commemorate the day when, in accordance with the constitution of independent Bangladesh, the country's higher judiciary first began functioning on 18 December 1972.
Since then, the day has been observed annually.
