Attack on Hadi an attempt to disrupt election: Home adviser
The adviser warned that the interim government will take strict action against any effort to sabotage the polls.
Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said the recent attack on Inqilab Mancha leader Osman Hadi was an attempt to obstruct the upcoming national election.
Speaking to journalists after a meeting today (13 December), the adviser warned that the interim government will take strict action against any effort to sabotage the polls.
"The attack on Osman Hadi is being viewed as an attempt to disrupt the upcoming general election. The interim government will suppress with an iron hand any attempt to obstruct or derail the national polls," the home adviser said.
He also said that, alongside routine discussions, the meeting focused in particular on overall security preparations for the election, special security measures for July Fighters, including Osman Hadi, and the recovery of looted and illegal firearms.
Jahangir said the government is treating the incident with utmost importance.
"Law enforcement agencies have been instructed to immediately arrest those involved in the attack. We hope to bring the perpetrators to justice within a very short time. No one involved in this attack will be spared. The government firmly believes it will receive full cooperation from the public in this regard," he added.
The home adviser further said the interim government is determined to ensure the safety of frontline fighters of the July Uprising, and special security arrangements have already been put in place for them.
He added that operations by law enforcement agencies to recover looted and illegal weapons are ongoing and will be further intensified.
