Man beaten to death on suspicion of theft in Motijheel
Police recovered the body from the staircase between the fourth and fifth floors of a building in Arambagh last night.
An unidentified man has been beaten to death on suspicion of theft in Dhaka's Motijheel area.
The incident took place yesterday (9 December) at an apartment in the Arambagh area of Motijheel. The man was approximately 50 years old, but his identity could not be confirmed immediately.
Motijheel police sent the body to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue for autopsy this morning (10 December), confirmed Motijheel Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Kazi Arman Hossain.
He said police recovered the body from the staircase between the fourth and fifth floors of a building in Arambagh last night. The body bore numerous injury marks on both hands, the back, and other parts of the body.
According to the police official, preliminary information from locals suggests the man had entered the building to commit theft. He was allegedly caught while attempting to steal a mobile phone from a sixth-floor apartment and was beaten by residents, leading to his death.
A murder case has already been filed, but no arrests have been made yet, said police, assuring they are investigating the incident in detail.
