Whoever wins next election, we will stand by them: Adviser Fouzul
The Election Commission will conduct the election independently this time, he says
The nation will stand with whoever wins the upcoming national election, Road Transport and Bridges Adviser Fouzul Kabir Khan said today (7 December).
"Our only expectation is that the polls are held in a festive and peaceful atmosphere. No one should be able to occupy polling centres as before. The Election Commission will conduct the election independently this time," he said while speaking to journalists after laying the foundation stone for the long-awaited Mirganj Bridge over the Arial Kha River in Babuganj upazila in Barishal.
Talking about the bridge, he said that due to various obstacles, the construction work had been delayed, which in turn caused the project cost to rise.
He added that the bridge would help spur economic revitalization, strengthen social cohesion, and promote industrial and agricultural development in the area.
During the event, Shipping Adviser M Sakhawat Hossain said that the people of the region would greatly benefit once the bridge is completed.
He urged locals to remain vigilant to ensure there is no corruption, such as "pond theft" or "river theft," during the construction period.
The adviser emphasised that the work must be carried out with integrity, keeping public trust in mind, and cautioned that if contractors are awarded tasks improperly, it may create local complications and undermine construction quality.
The approximately 1.5-kilometre bridge will be built over the Arial Kha River at Mirganj under Babuganj upazila at an estimated cost of Tk1,442 crore. Construction is expected to begin in January next year.
The foundation stone laying ceremony was attended by Divisional Commissioner of Barishal Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of Barishal Md Khairul Alam Sumon, senior officials from the Roads and Highways Department, and various political, social and local dignitaries.
Residents of Babuganj, Muladi and Hijla upazilas had long demanded the construction of this bridge, and that long-awaited dream is now finally becoming a reality.
