2 Bangladeshis killed in BSF firing at Lalmonirhat, Moulvibazar borders
BGB formally protested the incidents and called for a flag meeting at the company commander level
Two Bangladeshis were shot dead by India's Border Security Force (BSF) in separate incidents along the Lalmonirhat and Moulvibazar borders today (4 December).
The victims were identified as Sabuj Mia, 30, son of the late Sirajul Islam of Pachavandar village in Patgram, Lalmonirhat; and Shukuram Urang, 25, son of Dasnu Urang from the Muraichhra area in Kulaura upazila, Moulvibazar.
Sabuj killed at Patgram border
The incident involving Sabuj occurred earlier today around 3:30am, near pillars 864 and 865 of the Pachakata border in Patgram's Shamsernagar area.
According to local sources, Sabuj and several others had entered the zero-line area allegedly to bring cattle when BSF members of the 156 Chenakata Camp opened fire. Sabuj died on the spot, while others fled, reports Prothom Alo.
Lt Col Mujahid Masum, commanding officer of the 61 BGB Battalion, confirmed the incident, saying that information from various sources indicated Sabuj's body had been taken to an Indian hospital for autopsy through the Madhabhanga Police Station in West Bengal.
He added that BGB formally protested the incident and called for a flag meeting at the company commander level.
Meanwhile, Tanmay Mukhopadhyay, Madhabhanga's additional superintendent of police told The Business Standard that a written complaint had been filed by BSF and the matter was under investigation.
Shukuram shot dead in Moulvibazar
In a separate incident, Shukuram Urang was shot dead around 1:30pm today near border pillar 1844 in Kulaura's Kamalganj area. According to police and local residents, Shukuram had gone to work on agricultural land near the border when BSF personnel allegedly opened indiscriminate fire at him.
He collapsed while attempting to run for safety.
Locals rescued him and attempted to take him to Kulaura Upazila Health Complex, but he died on the way.
Dr Mahfuzul Islam, medical officer at the health complex, confirmed that Shukuram was brought in dead.
Omar Faruk, officer-in-charge of Kulaura Police Station said the body had been sent to the Moulvibazar District Hospital morgue for autopsy and that BGB had been informed of the incident.
