In the previous fiscal, foreign investors had sold stocks worth 2.5 times than they bought in the Fiscal Year 2017-18.

The DSE -- the premier bourse of the country -- on Monday disclosed their compiled investment data, revealing that foreign portfolio investors closed net position worth Tk184 crore over the fiscal year that ended on June 30. In Fiscal Year 2018-19, their net buy was Tk72 crore.

In the outgoing fiscal, they bought securities worth Tk 4,018 crore and sold worth Tk 4,215 crore. Their total buy and sale were Tk 5,900 crore and Tk 5,829 crore respectively in the fiscal 2017-18.

Their total trade over the 2018-19 fiscal came down to Tk8,219 crore from Tk11,729 crore in the previous fiscal.

Market analysts told The Business Standard that the data contains nothing concerning.

The net sale this year is less than 15 percent of foreigners holding into local stocks. It is a part of usual profit taking during some macroeconomic headwinds, they added.

They pointed out the exchange rate, global investment trend and local stock market condition as the reasons behind foreigners’ decision to book some profit from Bangladesh.
