DNCC starts auctioning off illegal construction material from the roads
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has started a campaign today to evict and auction off illegal construction materials found on the road and sidewalks
Raids and mobile courts have simultaneously taken place to seize and auction off illegal construction material found on the main roads and sidewalks of 10 Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) regions today.
DNCC mayor Atiqul Islam started the campaign around 9.30am as per an earlier announcement, and other senior DNCC officials including the Chief Executive Officer Selim Reza were also present during the inspection
Builders were fined by mobile courts for keeping the construction material on the sidewalk and the main road of Gulshan 86, 87, 67, and the Banani area, and the material was later sold at instant auctions.

"No matter how powerful you are, you can't conduct business leaving construction material or any other tools on the sidewalks of the city," DNCC mayor Atiqul Islam said during the inspection.
Even after receiving constant notices to refrain from illegally leaving construction material on the road, the builders didn't bother to act and respect the law, added Atiqul, claiming that as a result, the sidewalks continue to collapse and the construction material also causes waterlogging by blocking the drainage system.
To prevent this, starting from today, the campaign of removing and auctioning will be carried out following the law, and will continue once a week, he declared.
During today's campaign, a total of 32 auctions were held, and through that, 13 lakh 8 thousand 590 taka was collected while an additional 6 lakh 45 thousand taka was collected through fines. Also, 1,200 illegal establishments, shops, and sheds were removed.
The mayor also highlighted the problem of excessive illegal billboards hanging around the city, saying that most of these billboards and signboards have been put up without permission from the city corporation.
He requested concerned people to only put-up signboards after receiving the city corporation's permission and paying the prescribed taxes, and warned that failing to abide by the instruction will result in the removal of the signboards starting from the 14th of the month.
He further confirmed that any activity that mars the appearance of the city will be handled strictly.
