A case has been filed against popular Bangladeshi rock band Artcell's vocalist Lincoln and the band's manager Khademul Wahab Maher on fraud allegations.
The complaint was submitted today (26 November) to the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Muhammad Jonaid by Md Salahuddin, former coordinator of Rajshahi University and general secretary (GS) of the university's central students' union.
The court recorded the plaintiff's statement and kept its order pending. Later in the afternoon, the court directed the officer-in-charge of Tejgaon Police Station to investigate the allegations and submit a report, confirmed plaintiff's lawyer Kaiyum Hossain Nayon.
According to the complaint, a celebration event for "36 July" was organised by students of Rajshahi University on 15 August. Lincoln and Maher had signed an agreement on 19 July to perform at the programme. As per the contract, Tk5.25 lakh was paid out of a total Tk5.75 lakh to secure their participation.
However, only five hours before the programme began, the band announced through a Facebook post that they would not be attending the event. Their absence allegedly caused financial losses amounting to Tk16 lakh to the general students and the complainant.
The plaintiff also stated that a legal notice was sent to the accused on 25 August, to which they did not respond.
