BCCCI, CEAB discuss steps to strengthen Bangladesh–China trade
A delegation from the Bangladesh China Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCCI), led by President Mohd Khorshed Alam and Secretary General Jamilur Rahman, paid a courtesy call on Han Kun, President of the Chinese Enterprises Association in Bangladesh (CEAB), on 25 November 2025 at the CEAB office in Dhaka.
The meeting focused on bilateral trade issues and on identifying practical mechanisms to resolve bottlenecks affecting commerce between Bangladesh and China.
Khorshed Alam highlighted the importance of the textile sector to Bangladesh's economy and stressed opportunities for joint ventures with Chinese investors, particularly in rehabilitating struggling or non-operational industrial units. Revitalising dormant facilities, he noted, would yield more meaningful commercial outcomes than establishing entirely new industries. He also assured that the BCCCI would provide the necessary support to facilitate SB clearance procedures for CEAB members.
Han Kun outlined priority areas for enhanced cooperation, including infrastructure development, government-to-government projects, power and renewable energy initiatives, and increased trade in construction materials. He reaffirmed the CEAB's commitment to strengthening economic ties and said coordinated efforts between the BCCCI and CEAB would better address challenges and support policy-level recommendations.
Jamilur Rahman proposed forming a joint working group with representatives from both organisations to identify and address bilateral trade disputes, operational barriers and other challenges faced by Bangladeshi and Chinese businesses.
Senior Vice-President A Z M Azizur Rahman underscored the strategic importance of increasing Chinese investment in Bangladesh. He pointed out that a significant number of Chinese companies operate in export processing zones, demonstrating their potential for expanded cooperation.
Lin Hai, Vice-President of the CEAB and President of its ICT branch, highlighted opportunities in 5G, macro technologies and smartphone innovation, and called for greater technological integration in Bangladesh's education sector.
Mike Ge, President of the CEAB Textile and Garments branch, discussed the textile sector's current landscape and acknowledged Chinese enterprises' contributions as buying houses and strategic partners in the global supply chain.
The meeting was attended by BCCCI Vice-Presidents Khandaker Atiqur Rahman and Mohammad Masud Ali Khan; directors Mohammad Amanur Rahman, A T M Altaf Hossain Lotus, Md Kamruzzaman Ibne Amin and Asif Haque Rupo; and office secretary Md Abu Taher.
CEAB representatives included Tao Tao, marketing director, Bangladesh branch; Ma Rui, vice-president; and Zhou Meimei, secretary, who shared their investment-related insights.
