Danish state secretary discusses investment, post-LDC priorities with foreign adviser
Lina Grandløse Hansen, State Secretary for Trade and Investment at the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, paid a courtesy call on Foreign Adviser Md Touhid Hossain at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday afternoon.
She was accompanied by Christian Brix Møller, Danish Ambassador to Bangladesh. Earlier in the day, State Secretary Hansen met the Chief Adviser after attending the inauguration ceremony of the Laldia Container Terminal (LCT) project, according to a press release.
During the meeting, the Foreign Adviser highlighted the USD 550 million investment by Danish company APM Terminals in the LCT project – set to become the largest single European investment in Bangladesh to date. He thanked Denmark for the landmark commitment and requested Danish support to help Bangladesh address challenges following its graduation from least developed country (LDC) status.
The Adviser also underscored the importance of cooperation in capacity building, bilateral trade, investment expansion, energy efficiency, and sustainable economic development.
In response, State Secretary Hansen reaffirmed Denmark's commitment to supporting the interim government in its transition towards a peaceful, democratic, and equitable Bangladesh. She noted that the LCT project marks the beginning of a new phase in bilateral relations and will significantly deepen cooperation between the two countries.
Hansen also apprised the Foreign Adviser of Denmark's interest in potential investment in the proposed 500 MW offshore wind power project near Cox's Bazar, and highlighted ongoing reinvestment initiatives by Denmark's development finance institution, IFU.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the steady progress in bilateral relations and reiterated their resolve to further strengthen the economic and development partnership.
