Judge's school-going son killed in Rajshahi knife attack; autopsy confirms stab injury, suffocation
The judge's wife had earlier filed a general diary (GD) against the attacker, named Limon Mia, at Jalalabad Police Station in Sylhet.
An autopsy has confirmed that Tausif Rahman Sumon, the 18-year-old son of Rajshahi Metropolitan Sessions Judge Abdur Rahman, died from excessive bleeding caused by a deep stab wound in his thigh with a narrow knife. He was also rendered unconscious by suffocation before death.
Police said the school-going boy was stabbed to death by a young man at their Dabtola residence in Rajshahi city today (13 November). His mother, Tasmin Nahar Lucy, was also critically injured in the attack.
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police spokesperson Gaziur Rahman said this morning (14 November) that the knife used in the murder has been recovered.
The deceased, Tausif Rahman Sumon, was a class IX student.
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Abu Sufian said the attacker, named Limon Mia, entered the judge's residence and attacked the family members indiscriminately around 3:30pm, leaving Tausif dead on the spot and his mother critically injured.
Tasmin Nahar was rushed to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment, said Shankar Kumar Biswas, spokesperson for the hospital.
Meanwhile, the attacker has also been admitted to the same hospital with injuries sustained during the incident.
"An investigation team is working at the scene. The motive behind the murder remains unclear. The attacker was known to the family and had occasionally borrowed money from them," said RMP Commissioner Abu Sufian.
Police said the judge's wife had earlier filed a general diary (GD) against Limon Mia at Jalalabad Police Station in Sylhet.
Tasmin Nahar mentioned in the general diary that she had met Limon Mia through the Quantum Foundation. She said Limon, who was financially weak, often sought financial help from her. When she repeatedly declined, he allegedly became hostile.
Tasmin stated that on 3 November, around 10:20am, Limon called her daughter on Facebook Messenger and threatened to kill her and her family members. Feeling unsafe, she subsequently filed the GD.
Speaking to reporters at the hospital this evening, attacker Limon Mia claimed that he is a retired army member.
According to Limon, he went to the judge's house and attacked Tasmin with a knife he was carrying.
He alleged that when Tasmin and her son, Tausif Rahman, tried to resist, he was seriously injured in the scuffle and bit the boy's leg while trying to escape. Limon claimed he remembers nothing after that and denied killing Tausif Rahman.
Abdul Latif, who lives in the same building on the third floor, said his housemaid, who also works at the judge's residence, informed them about the attack. "We rushed to the fifth floor and saw Tausif and Limon lying on the floor with severe injuries, while the judge's wife was also seriously hurt. They were immediately taken to the hospital for treatment."
Judge Abdur Rahman, originally from Jamalpur district, is posted in Rajshahi and has been residing with his family in the rented Dabtola house.
Meanwhile, Law Adviser Asif Nazrul has strongly condemned the brutal attack on the family members of Judge Mohammad Abdur Rahman, and instructed the police to arrest all those involved and ensure a thorough investigation as soon as possible, according to an official release issued today.
