Crude bomb blasts: Govt says member of banned BCL held, vows to protect communal harmony

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with a series of recent crude bomb attacks in the capital.
Initial police investigation has identified him as a member of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of banned Awami League, said a press release issued by the Chief Adviser's Press Wing today (10 November).
According to the release, the suspect is being interrogated regarding multiple incidents, including the crude bomb explosions on the premises of Kakrail's St. Mary's Cathedral and St. Joseph School, a Catholic-run famous educational institution.

The interim government has reiterated its unwavering commitment to safeguarding interfaith unity and communal harmony.
The government also warned that any attempt to disturb the country's religious harmony will face the full force of the law.
Meanwhile, the DMP, in coordination with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), has intensified a citywide manhunt to apprehend all individuals involved in these heinous and cowardly acts of violence.
Security has been stepped up in all churches and religious establishments of all faiths in the capital, said the media release.
Crude bombs exploded in four separate locations in Dhaka, including the premises of a business owned by Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter, this morning (10 November).
Two bombs targeted Farida's business premises on Sir Syed Road at around 7:10am.
Meanwhile, in Dhanmondi, motorcycle riders detonated two crude bombs near Ibn Sina Hospital and another two in front of Midas Center at Dhanmondi-27 at around 7:30am, Shah Mostafa Tariquzzaman, DMP assistant commissioner for Dhanmondi zone, confirmed.
Earlier, in Mirpur, a bomb exploded on the road in front of the Grameen Bank headquarters around 3:45am.
In the early hours of Saturday (8 November), two crude bombs exploded inside the compound of St Joseph Higher Secondary School in the capital's Mohammadpur area. The school authorities filed a general diary (GD) with Mohammadpur Police Station following the incident.
The previous night, a crude bomb exploded at St Mary's Cathedral in Dhaka's Kakrail, while another was recovered unexploded from inside the church.
