At least 11 dead in separate road accidents across country

A spate of deadly road accidents today (4 November) claimed at least eleven lives and left many injured in separate incidents in Tangail, Noakhali, and on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway, stemming from high-speed collisions and driver negligence.
The deadliest accident occurred around 2:30pm in Kabirhat upazila, Noakhali, when a speeding truck ploughed into a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on the Basurhat-Sonapur road, in front of Kabirhat Islamia Alia Madrasha. Six people, including two women, were reported dead.
Farid Ahmed, assistant director of Noakhali Fire Service and Civil Defence, said two women and the auto-rickshaw driver died instantly, while two others succumbed to injuries en route to Kabirhat Upazila Health Complex and another during treatment. Police have yet to release the identities of the victims, promising further details later.
Earlier, around 12:30pm, a head-on collision between two passenger buses in Kadamtoli, Shayestaganj Upazila, killed at least three people and injured twenty others. The accident involved an ENA Paribahan bus colliding with a Royal Paribahan bus.
Two passengers died at the scene, while one more succumbed to injuries at Habiganj Sadar Hospital, and others were treated at Madhabpur Upazila Health Complex. Shuvo Ranjan Chakma, Officer-in-Charge of Shayestaganj Highway Police, confirmed the casualties, adding that the identities of the deceased remain unverified.
In Tangail, two men died around noon near Dewhata Overbridge on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway in Mirzapur. The victims were identified as auto-rickshaw driver Rohiz Sikdar and passenger Abdul Hamid.
According to witnesses and Mirzapur Gorail Highway Police OC Sohail Sarwar, a Dhaka-bound passenger bus struck the auto-rickshaw, which was attempting to enter the overbridge by driving the wrong way. Both victims were rushed to Kumudini Hospital but were pronounced dead. Police are investigating the incident and arranging to hand over the bodies to the families.
Authorities continue to stress road safety, citing high-speed driving and negligence as key factors in these tragedies.
