Following the arrest, police recovered the murder weapon and the victim's sandals based on the suspect's confession
Police have arrested the prime suspect in a murder case in Chattogram's Aturar Depot area of Chattogram city within ten hours of the incident, recovering the knife used in the killing and the victim's sandals.
The arrestee, Md Zahidul Islam (31), was detained early Tuesday (4 November) from the Moulvi Pukur Par area under Chandgaon Police Station in a special drive conducted by a team from Panchlaish Model Police Station led by Officer-in-Charge Md Solaiman.
Police said the victim, Md Hasibul Islam (26), worked at a restaurant in the city's 2 No Gate area.
About four to five months ago, Hasibul became acquainted with a woman named Priti Tanha (24) through Facebook. Their online interaction gradually turned into a romantic affair. When Tanha's husband Zahidul found out, he allegedly threatened Hasibul several times over the phone.
On the afternoon of 3 November, Zahidul lured Hasibul out of his home under the pretext of having tea. In front of a house in the Sangeet Residential Area, an argument broke out, during which Zahidul allegedly pulled out a sharp knife and stabbed Hasibul in the chest, back, and neck before fleeing the scene.
Locals took the severely injured Hasibul to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. His brother, Md Imran Bin Islam later filed a murder case with Panchlaish Model Police Station.
Following the arrest, police recovered the murder weapon and the victim's sandals based on the suspect's confession.
OC Solaiman said, "We identified and arrested the accused quickly with the help of intelligence and technology. The arrestee has been produced before the court."
