Young woman found dead in Malibagh house, husband absconding
She had not maintained contact with her family for the last two years
Police have recovered the sack-wrapped body of a young woman from a house in the Bokshibagh area of Malibagh, Dhaka.
The deceased was identified as 21-year-old Surovi Akhter Mahfuza.
Her body was recovered yesterday evening (3 November) from a ground-floor room of a house in Bokshibagh Mosque area, where she lived with her husband, Ashikur Rahman Molla.
Police said Ashikur has been missing since the incident.
Shah Alam, inspector (investigation) of Shahjahanpur Police Station, said initial findings suggest that Ashikur may have killed his wife before fleeing. Preparations are underway to file a case, and efforts are ongoing to arrest him.
According to police, both Surovi and Ashikur worked at a local tailoring shop where they first met and later got married.
Yesterday, neighbours alerted police after noticing a foul smell coming from their room. Officers later recovered Surovi's body, wrapped in a sack, and sent it to the morgue for autopsy.
Surovi's brother, Hridoy Khan, said the couple married six years ago and had a four-year-old son named Mehedi Hasan.
He alleged that Ashikur had previously assaulted his sister two years ago, after which she briefly separated but later reconciled.
Since then, she had not maintained contact with her family until they were informed of her death by the police yesterday.
