48,000 police members complete election training: Police HQ
A total of 48,134 members of Bangladesh Police have so far completed electoral training designed to enhance their skills and professionalism ahead of the upcoming national parliamentary election, the Police Headquarters said today (4 November).
The training aims to build a skilled and disciplined force capable of performing election duties impartially and effectively, according to a statement issued by the Police Headquarters.
Around 150,000 police members will be deployed at the field level during the polls, with their activities set to be audited at both national and international levels.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam has instructed all unit chiefs to conduct the training under close supervision, while the Police Headquarters continues to monitor progress.
The IGP also visited Rajshahi and Bogura on Sunday (2 November) to inspect training sessions and exchange views with participating officers.
The training programme, part of a broader government initiative to strengthen law enforcement capacity during the election period, was inaugurated by Home Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on 7 September at the Rajarbagh Police Auditorium in Dhaka. It will continue until mid-January.
The Police Headquarters said all necessary preparations are underway to ensure the national election is held in a free, fair, impartial, and festive atmosphere.
This marks the first time such a comprehensive training initiative has been organised for police members ahead of a national election.
According to the Election Commission, proposals have been made to deploy around eight lakh law enforcement officials for eight days surrounding the polls. This includes about 150,000 police personnel, 90,000 to 100,000 army members, and approximately 550,000 Ansar members.
Separately, the government has approved the recruitment of 4,000 assistant sub-inspectors to further strengthen the police force ahead of the elections.
