Defamation case filed against NCP's Nasiruddin Patwary over ‘extortion’ remark on Jubo Dal leaders
Jamaat condemns the move as “deeply concerning and unjust"
A defamation case has been filed against National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary for allegedly making extortion-related defamatory remarks about leaders of the Jubo Dal, the youth wing of BNP.
Watch:
The case alleged that Nasiruddin Patwary made defamatory comments targeting Rabiul Islam Nayon, member secretary of Dhaka South Jubo Dal.
Kazi Mukituzzaman, a member of the convening committee of Dhaka South Jubo Dal, filed the case today (2 November) with the court of Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Zakir Hossain.
Lawyer Mehedi Hasan Jewel, representing the plaintiff, confirmed the matter to the media.
After recording the complainant's statement, the court ordered the Detective Branch (DB) of police to investigate the allegations and submit a report by 30 November.
The complaint alleges that on 1 November, at a gathering held at the BMA Auditorium in Dhaka, Nasiruddin Patwary made highly inflammatory statements aimed at Rabiul Islam Nayon.
According to the complaint, Patwary had stated, "A major party is engaging in thuggery over the July Charter. There is a Dhaka metropolitan leader named Nayon; the amount of extortion and corruption he alone has committed, that money could fund a referendum in Bangladesh.
Patwary was quoted in the complaint saying, "We tried cleansing them with Zamzam water for a long time, but neither their heads nor their bodies were clean. Now I think they need to be washed with Buriganga's water."
The plaintiff stated that Patwary's remarks were widely published across various media outlets and are false, fabricated, baseless, misleading, and defamatory. The case asserts that these statements severely damaged the social and political reputation of Rabiul Islam Nayon, who serves as the member secretary of the Jatiotabadi Jubo Dal's Dhaka Metropolitan South unit and is known as an icon among the youth across the country.
The complaint further alleges that the accused deliberately and maliciously used online news portals and mainstream media to spread false information, slandering Nayon and thereby tarnishing the reputation of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and the entire Jubo Dal, along with the reputation of the entire youth community, has been tarnished and politically humiliated.
