A political party trying to create division using Islam for electoral gains: Salahuddin
We practice the Islam of Madinah and none of us follow Maududi’s Islam here, he says
BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed today (1 November) alleged that a certain political party is attempting to create division by using Islam for its own electoral interests.
"We have noticed attempts to use Islam to gain various benefits in Bangladeshi politics, especially before elections. Therefore, we must remain alert against those who seek to create fitnah and mislead the Muslims of Bangladesh," he said while addressing the Azmate Sahaba Grand Conference organised by Qasemi Parishad at the Eidgah ground in Narayanganj.
Mentioning that about 90% to 92% of Bangladesh's population are Muslims, Salahuddin said, "We practice the Islam of Madinah — the Islam established by the Prophet (PBUH) and followed by his Sahabis. None of us follow Maududi's Islam here."
The BNP leader further said, "The past fascist Sheikh Hasina government was an Islamophobic regime. The Awami League's politics has been anti-Islamic — it persecuted Islamic scholars and promoted Muslim hostility for its own benefit."
Referring to the political downfall of the previous government, Salahuddin added, "We have all witnessed how their politics came to an end by Allah's decree. Therefore, we must engage in politics based on ideals and integrity."
