Dengue toll in Bangladesh rises as 6 more die, nearly 1,000 hospitalised

The dengue outbreak in Bangladesh continues to worsen, with six more fatalities and 953 new hospital admissions reported in the 24 hours till this morning (12 October).
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the latest deaths raise the country's dengue toll to 230 for the year. Two of the recent deaths occurred at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, while one each was reported at Kurmitola General Hospital, Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital, Khulna Medical College Hospital, and Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. All six were male.
During the same period, 953 patients were hospitalised with viral fever, bringing the total number of dengue cases in 2025 to 54,559. Currently, 889 patients are receiving treatment in Dhaka, with 2,546 undergoing care nationwide.
The DGHS report indicates that 61.1% of the dengue patients this year are men, while 38.9% are women. Among the fatalities, 53.5% were male and 46.5% female.
For comparison, dengue claimed 575 lives last year. In the same period in 2024, the DGHS recorded 101,214 dengue cases and 100,040 recoveries.
