ULAB’s ‘global talks’ spotlights Kosovo–Bangladesh cooperation

ULAB hosted the second session of its Global Talks: A Distinguished Lecture Series on Thursday, 9 October 2025.
Continuing the programme, the keynote lecture, entitled "Education and Trade as Bridges between Kosovo and Bangladesh", was delivered by H.E. Lulzim Pllana, Ambassador of the Republic of Kosovo to Bangladesh.
Professor Imran Rahman, Vice-Chancellor of ULAB, opened the session with welcoming remarks, followed by the keynote address. Professor Jude William Genilo, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of ULAB, delivered the vote of thanks.
During his address, Ambassador Pllana reflected on the foundation of Bangladesh–Kosovo relations, recalling Bangladesh's recognition of Kosovo in 2017 and the role of Bangladeshi peacekeepers in stabilising the country after the 1999 war. He described the bilateral relationship as "a partnership built on friendship, mutual respect, and shared aspiration — a bridge uniting South Asia and the Balkans through the twin pillars of learning and commerce".
Building on his overview, the Ambassador focused first on education as a key pillar, highlighting a cooperation agreement between AAB College in Prishtina and ULAB, which aims to promote student and faculty exchanges, joint research and internship opportunities.
Turning to economic opportunities, he identified trade as another important area of collaboration, noting that Kosovo offers Bangladeshi entrepreneurs a strategic gateway to European and Balkan markets.
Addressing the audience, Ambassador Pllana spoke directly to students, encouraging them to see themselves as "future leaders, innovators and cultural ambassadors". He urged youth from both nations to collaborate on research, innovation and entrepreneurship, saying, "Every joint project sparks ideas that neither country could achieve alone".
Following the lecture, ULAB screened the award-winning Kosovar film Hive (Zgjoi), which celebrates resilience and women's empowerment.
ULAB's Global Talks series is a vital initiative to enhance the university's international profile and foster global understanding and academic diplomacy.
