Media Fest 2025 kicks off at UIU

The Department of Media Studies and Journalism (MSJ) at United International University (UIU) organised a day-long contest for inter-college and university students titled "UIU Media Fest 2025" at the UIU campus yesterday.
The festival featured multiple segments including a media quiz, content projection, documentary screening, star talk and a photography exhibition, providing a platform to showcase creativity and innovation in media and communication.
Prof Dr Md Abul Kashem Mia, vice-chancellor of UIU, attended as chief guest, while Prof Dr Hamidul Huq, dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences; Prof Dr Mohammad Omar Farooq, head of the Department of Economics; and Dr Md Zulfiqur Rahman, registrar of UIU, joined as special guests. Dr Sheikh Shafiul Islam, head of MSJ, presided over the ceremony.
Faculty members including Dr Mario Hirstein, assistant professor; Ms Kazi Kamrun Nahar Tania, lecturer; Ms Sumia Zahid, lecturer; and Ms Umme Ammara, lecturer, led a series of competitions throughout the day.
The festival was further enriched by prominent guests such as actress Mehazabien Chowdhury, content creator Kaarina Kaiser, News24 head of news Shariful Islam Khan, film directors Maksud Hossain and Shankha Dasgupta, and Md Shariful Islam, head of influencing, communication, advocacy and media at Oxfam Bangladesh, who inspired students through their speeches and interactions.
Students of MSJ, alongside members of UIU Cultural Club, UIU Photography Club and UIU Film and Theatre Club, performed in various shows that contributed to the festival's success.
The event was attended by faculty members, students, officials, government representatives, media experts, journalists and distinguished guests.
