Syria to hold parliamentary elections on 5 October
Syria's Higher Committee for People’s Assembly Elections announced that voting will take place across all electoral districts on that day.

Syria will hold its first parliamentary election under the new administration on 5 October, state news agency SANA said on Sunday (21 September).
Syria's Higher Committee for People's Assembly Elections announced that voting will take place across all electoral districts on that day.
The committee also extended the deadline for submitting appeals against members of the electoral bodies until the close of business on Sunday.
According to officials, the electoral process begins with the Supreme Electoral Committee appointing subcommittees, which then select the electoral bodies responsible for accepting candidate applications. Preliminary candidate lists are prepared from these bodies, after which citizens are allowed to file objections.
Final candidate lists are then announced once reviews are complete.
Voting is conducted by a direct, secret ballot. Subcommittees are tasked with counting the votes and publishing preliminary results.
Of the 210 parliamentary seats, the president appoints one-third from outside the electoral body. The final results are confirmed through a presidential decree, following which the newly elected People's Assembly will convene for its first session.
