Husband-wife duo from Shibir-backed panel win Jucsu
Tariqul won his post with 1,746 votes, while Nigar was elected with 2,566 votes

A husband and wife has secured victory in the Jahangirnagar University Central Students' Union (Jucsu) election from Islami Chhatra Shibir's Coordinated Student Alliance panel.
Hafez Tariqul Islam secured the position of Executive Member, while Nigar Sultana was elected Assistant Secretary for Social Service and Humanitarian Development.
The final results of the polls, held for the first time in 33 years, were announced at 7:28pm yesterday at the university's Senate Building by Chief Election Commissioner, Professor Md Moniruzzaman.
Tariqul won his post with 1,746 votes, while Nigar was elected with 2,566 votes.
Tariqul, a master's student from the 49th batch (2019–20 session) of the Mathematics Department, is also serving as the Social Welfare Secretary of the Jahangirnagar University unit of Islami Chhatra Shibir.
His wife is a fourth-year student from the 50th batch (2020–21 session) of the Pharmacy Department, is involved as a co-head of the Qur'an and Cultural Study Club.
In this year's Jucsu polls, 179 candidates contested across 25 posts.
Among them were nine for Vice President (VP), eight for General Secretary (GS), ten for Assistant General Secretary (AGS, Male), and six for Assistant General Secretary (AGS, Female).
The university unit of Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, announced its full 25-member panel on 21 August.
