A case has been filed in connection with torturing the woman and her daughters

A local court at Chakaria in Cox's Bazar has granted bail to the elderly woman and her daughters who were sent to jail on allegation of stealing a cow.

The judge, Rajib Kumar Dev, of Chakaria Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court granted them bail Monday noon. The court said the bail would remain in effect till the next date of the case filed against them.

Omar Farooq, general secretary of Chakaria Bar Association, confirmed the matter.

The woman is Parveen Akhter, 55, wife of the late Abul Kalam of Ward 9 of Shantirhat Kusumpura Union in Patiya, her two daughters Selina Akhter Shelly, 25, and Rozina Akhter, 20. The other two accused were not granted bail.

Meanwhile, the same court has filed a case in connection with torturing the elderly woman and her daughters while tying them with a rope.

The judge directed the senior assistant superintendent of police of Chakaria Circle to submit an investigation report in the case within seven working days.

Meanwhile, police have arrested three people in connection with the incident, Chakaria Police Station Officer-in-Charge Habibur Rahman told The Business Standard.

The arrestees are Nazrul Islam, 19, Jashim Uddin, 30, and Nasir Uddin, 28 from Bindarbankhil area. They were arrested from Harbang area on early Monday, Habibur Rahman added.

Chakaria Upazila Nirbahi Officer Syed Shamsul Tabriz Sonnet, Chakaria Circle Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Kazi Md Motiul Islam and Chakaria Police Station Officer-In-Charge Md Habibur Rahman visited the spot. They talked to the eyewitnesses.

Two investigation committees have been formed from the offices of Cox's Bazar Deputy Commissioner and Chakaria Upazila Nirbahi Officer to investigate this incident.

The Deputy Director of Local Government has been made head of the district administration committee.

Chakaria Circle Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Kazi Md Motiul Islam said, "Chakaria Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court took the case in connection with the incident of Harbang. I have been directed to submit an investigation report within seven working days. I have received the instruction letter of the court."

On Friday afternoon, an elderly mother and her two young daughters were tied with a rope and tortured for 'stealing a cow' in Cox's Bazar's Chakaria. Later, they were taken to the local chairman's office. There are allegations that the chairman himself beat them again.
