NU opens new regional centre in Jhenaidah

The National University has inaugurated a new regional centre in Jhenaidah, aiming to strengthen its regional role and directly address the needs of teachers, students, and staff at affiliated colleges.
Attorney General Advocate Md Asaduzzaman and Vice-Chancellor Professor ASM Amanullah inaugurated the centre on Saturday with a ceremony. The centre's main role is to oversee and support colleges in Chuadanga, Meherpur, Kushtia, and Magura, advancing the university's mission in these regions.
Marking the inauguration, a discussion was held at Government Keshab Chandra College, chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor Amanullah, with the Attorney General, Asaduzzaman, attending as the chief guest.
In his remarks, the Attorney General thanked the university for opening the centre and said corruption, including bribery in recruitment, had plagued educational institutions over the past 15 years. He urged strong action against corrupt individuals to ensure that no one dares repeat such offences in the future. He also expressed hope that the National University would expand its honours, master's, and professional courses in Jhenaidah and increase the number of seats in affiliated colleges.
Vice-Chancellor Amanullah said the university has undertaken several initiatives to enhance the quality of higher education, modernise curricula, and build students' IT skills. Memoranda of Understanding have been signed with a2i, the National Skills Development Authority, UNICEF, and other national and international organisations.
He announced that the university will train 50,000 female students of affiliated colleges, at its own expense, to become freelancers, with male students to receive the same opportunity later. The university is also arranging mental health workshops and plans to provide financial support for teachers' research.
The event was conducted by Acting Director Nazim Uddin Ahmed. Other notable speakers included local education, civic, and law enforcement leaders.
Principals and vice-principals of 130 colleges from Jhenaidah, Magura, Chuadanga, Meherpur, and Kushtia, along with NU directors, officials, teachers, and students, attended the event. The programme began with a minute's silence in memory of those martyred in the July–August student–public uprising.
