Sharing Shipra's photo: Writ seeking action against 2 police officials rejected

The High Court today rejected a writ petition filed seeking directives to take action against the Superintendent of Police of Satkhira and Superintendent of the Bureau of Investigation (PBI) for posting Shipra Debnath's personal photos and videos on social media.

The writ was placed before the High Court bench comprising Justice JBM Hasan and Justice Md Khairul Alam on Thursday.

Writ petitioner Manoj Kumar Bhowmick told that he prayed to the HC bench to reject the petition, considering that it was not presented before the bench as it was not convinced for passing any order to take action against the police officers.

The HC bench said that there is an alternative way to get remedy from the lower court concerned on this issue, he said, adding that he might move the same writ petition before another HC bench.

Cox’s Bazar Police refuse Shipra Devnath to accept case under DSA

Earlier on August 16, Supreme Court lawyer Manoj Kumar Bhowmik filed the writ petition in the concerned branch of the High Court. The writ petition sought an order directing the concerned authorities to investigate the Facebook posts of the two police officers and take action.

The respondents in the writ petition were the cabinet secretary, secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs and secretary of the Ministry of Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, inspector general of police, chief director of the Police Bureau of Investigation, DIG of Khulna Range and others concerned.

Shipra’s fight for justice seems far from over

Barrister Manoj Kumar Bhowmik filed the writ petition in the public interest, attaching a report titled "Cyberbullying now adds to her trauma" which was published in an English daily on August 16.
