BB officials demand compulsory leave for BFIU head over 'controversial videos'
They also demand urgent probe into the matter

A section of Bangladesh Bank officials has called for the immediate compulsory leave of AFM Shahinul Islam, head of the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU), following the circulation of several "controversial videos" allegedly featuring him on social media.
In a memorandum signed today, the officials demanded an urgent investigation into the matter, stating that the videos had "severely damaged the reputation of the state and the institution."
The memorandum also included a serious allegation that Shahinul permitted the illegal withdrawal of Tk19 crore from a frozen account belonging to Khandakar Enayet Ullah, the owner of Ena Paribahan. The officials argued that such conduct raises "serious concerns about his suitability to lead a sensitive agency like BFIU."
Additionally, they also demanded the implementation of previously adopted decisions concerning politically and party-biased recruitments made in Bangladesh Bank prior to 5 August 2024, stressing that such steps should be executed on an emergency basis.
The demand for an investigation comes just a day after the central bank's governor, Ahsan H Mansur, confirmed on Monday that an inquiry had been launched into a "compromising video" circulating online, which allegedly involves the BFIU head.
