Health adviser seeks investment from Chinese medical equipment makers
She expressed gratitude to China for its support in Bangladesh’s health sector

Health and Family Welfare Adviser Nurjahan Begum today (8 August) urged Chinese medical equipment manufacturers to invest in Bangladesh, citing the interim government's ongoing reforms to improve the investment climate.
"We are steadfast in implementing reforms, improving the investment climate, simplifying the regulatory framework, and ensuring a conducive environment for business activities. Chinese medical equipment producing companies can take the opportunity and invest here," she said.
Nurjahan made the statement as the chief guest at the inauguration of the "Nihao! China-Bangladesh Health and Medical Advancement Expo," at Hotel Sarina in Banani, Dhaka, according to a press release.
The event was organised by the Belt and Road Healthcare Center, Bangladesh, with support from the Chinese Medical Alumni Association of Bangladesh, China–Bangladesh Postgraduate Doctors Alumni Association, and the organisation Amra Nari.
Expressing gratitude to China for its support in Bangladesh's medical sector, she said the country remains committed to deepening bilateral ties. She recalled Beijing's quick assistance during recent emergencies, including sending a medical team after the Milestone School and College training plane crash and helping the injured during last year's anti-discrimination student movement.
She also highlighted that a 1,000-bed hospital will be built in Rangpur with funding from the Chinese government, alongside training programs for doctors, nurses, and technicians. Additionally, a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed to establish a rehabilitation centre for July fighters.
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen, also present at the event, said, "China is known for advanced medical technology and quality hospital services. We are eager to work with Bangladesh in building a sustainable healthcare system."
The day-long expo aimed to introduce the Bangladeshi public to modern Chinese medical systems, hospital services, and healthcare technologies.
Representatives, doctors, and healthcare professionals from more than twelve leading hospitals in China participated in the event. They provided visitors with health consultations, medical screenings, and information about a range of healthcare services.
Visitors had the opportunity to receive both on-site and online consultations from Chinese specialists. They were also provided with information about medical invitation letters, visa assistance, and free translation services. Additionally, full logistical support, including airport pickup, was highlighted as part of the medical travel services offered.
Several well-known Chinese hospitals took part in the exhibition. These included Boao Yiling Hospital, Fosun Health, Shenzhen Hengsheng Hospital, Foshan Fosun Chancheng Hospital, Guangzhou Fosun Chancheng Hospital, Guangzhou Shengmei Hospital, Guangzhou Fuda Cancer Hospital, Kunming Tongren Hospital, Modern Cancer Hospital in Guangzhou, and Xing Mei Hospital, also located in Guangzhou.
A 35-member delegation from various Chinese hospitals and medical equipment manufacturers also participated in the event.
