The principal secretary, in the letter, requested the Election Commission to begin all necessary steps to organise the national election within the proposed timeline

The Chief Adviser's Office has formally requested the Election Commission to complete all preparations for the 13th parliamentary election before Ramadan begins in February 2026.
In a letter sent to Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin today (6 August), Principal Secretary to the chief adviser M Siraj Uddin Mia urged the commission to take appropriate steps to ensure a free, fair, peaceful, and festive national election that meets public expectations.
The letter follows Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus's announcement on Tuesday that he would formally write to the CEC, requesting that the national election be held in February.
Quoting the chief adviser's speech, the letter noted that preparations and institutional measures have already been taken to create the right conditions for an inclusive and credible election.
"The chief adviser had emphasised that, after 15 years without meaningful electoral participation, the upcoming polls should be remembered as a moment of national celebration and democratic renewal," the letter reads.
The letter further highlights the chief adviser's call for high voter turnout, peaceful conduct, and a festive, welcoming atmosphere.
It also underscores the importance of using appropriate technology in the electoral process and reiterated the government's commitment to full cooperation with the Election Commission in ensuring a smooth and credible election.
