Hidden plots behind election announcement: Mirza Abbas
"I still believe that they [government] will try every possible way to prevent a fair election. They will continue misleading the public about the BNP," he says

BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas has raised doubts over the recently discussed election timeline, alleging hidden conspiracies behind the announcement.
"I strongly suspect there are many conspiracies behind this election declaration," he said while addressing a rally at Shahid Faruk road in the capital's Jatrabari this afternoon (1 August).
Abbas added, "I still believe that they [government] will try every possible way to prevent a fair election. They will continue misleading the public about the BNP. But BNP has fought for 17 years, and if needed, we will fight for another 17. Free and fair elections must be ensured."
The BNP leader also urged people to unite against any possible conspiracy aimed at derailing the electoral process.
Speaking at the rally organised by Dhaka South BNP, marking the anniversary of the July Uprising and paying tribute to the martyrs, Abbas slammed the government for favouring the National Citizen Party (NCP).
"This government seems to be an NCP regime. Wherever their leaders go, they receive official protocol. We were ministers, mayors – but we never got such privileges," he alleged.
Accusing the government of corruption and inaction, Abbas said, "It's been 10–11 months, and yet not a single accomplice of tyranny has been prosecuted. Murderers have fled abroad, living in comfort, and the government does nothing."
He also questioned why families of political martyrs are still being deprived of state support and justice.
