The National Citizen Party (NCP) has alleged that one of its organisers was assaulted by BNP activists while campaigning in Chattogram's Banshkhali upazila.

The incident reportedly took place last night (19 July) and was streamed live from the party's official Facebook page.

Jubairul Hasan Arif, joint chief organiser of NCP's central committee and coordinator for the Chattogram region, made the allegation in a Facebook post, attaching a photo of the injured organiser, Tanvir Shikder.

Speaking to The Business Standard, Zubairul said, "We were carrying out party campaigns in Banshkhali upazila on Saturday. Around 8:30pm, BNP activists came to the Jolodi area, snatched away our banners, and when we protested, they beat up Tanvir Shikder and injured his head."

In a video broadcast from the NCP's Facebook page, Tanvir Shikder said, "We were campaigning for the July March. At that time, followers of Liaquat Ali, former joint convenor of BNP's Chattogram south district unit and ex-chairman of Banshkhali's Gondamara union parishad, came and burned our banners. They attacked me and caused a head injury. After the incident, I received treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital."

However, BNP leader Liaquat Ali denied the allegations, saying, "I am currently in Dhaka. None of my activists were involved in any assault or attack. Our supporters held a peaceful torch procession and returned home. The accusation is false. This is part of a broader campaign of misinformation being spread against BNP nationwide."

Banshkhali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Saiful Islam said the matter is being investigated.
