A case has been filed with the Ukhiya Police Station over the killing of Kamal Hossain, a Union Parishad (UP) member from Jaliapalong Union in Ukhiya, Cox's Bazar.

The victim's brother Shahab Uddin lodged the case on Thursday night, naming eight individuals and listing six more as unidentified suspects.

All those named in the case were previously accused in the murder of the victim's other brother, Jashim Uddin, on 27 July 2019.

Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Arif Hossain stated that police operations to apprehend the accused were underway.

The deceased was the son of Siddiq Ahmed of the area. He also served as the organising secretary of the Ukhiya Upazila unit of the Jubo League.

The accused named in the case are Abdur Rahim, Tofail Ahmed, Zuhur Ahmed Chowdhury, Shariful Haque Sagar, Zahir Ahmed, Nurul Bashar, Mohammad Ridwan, and Shariful Haque Nahid. All of them are residents of the Monkhali area.

On Tuesday (8 July) afternoon, the body of Kamal Hossain was recovered from a hilly stream in the Monkhali area of Jaliapalong Union in Ukhiya.

According to the case statement, the accused planned and killed Jashim Uddin on 27 July 2019. After securing bail in that case, they made death threats to Kamal.

Recently, several of the accused allegedly posted Facebook statuses publicly threatening to kill him if the previous case was not withdrawn.
