A former union parishad (UP) member was killed and at least 15 others injured today (12 January) in a clash over invitations at a wedding ceremony at Masjid Bazar of Dharamandal village in Brahmanbaria's Nasirnagar.
The deceased, identified as Jitu Mia, 62, was a former member of the Dharamandal UP, Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Crime) Md Obaidur Rahman confirmed.
Police and local sources said a longstanding dispute between Jitu Mia and Ramzan Member erupted into a violent clash over wedding invitations that lasted about an hour, leaving Jitu seriously injured.
He was taken to hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead.
Md Obaidur Rahman added that legal action is underway in connection with the incident.
